The Court is at last determined, at the Motion of the French Ambassador, lately promoted to the Rank of Grandee, to undertake secret Expedition; which, from the Preparations made for it, must be of very great Importance. There is to be an Embarkation of 6000 old Troops, drawn out of the Provinces of Valencia, Murcia and Estremadura. The Officers who are to command them are all Men of Experience, and of Some of the best Families in the Kingdom; they have Orders to repair to Cadiz by the Close of the current Month. It is rumoured, that this Expedition regards a very distant Part Of the World; the Court seems to say, America; but we cannot tell how to believe it, because the Men of War that are at Carthagena, and are to escort this Embarkation, have taken on Board a vast Quantity of Fire Arms, and Ammunition and Provisions only for two Months. We dispatched last Week, under the Escort of a fine Regiment of Horse, a Million and half of new Pieces of Eight for the Army in Italy; and we are getting ready the like Sum, which will be infallibly sent to Genoa, before the Close of the Month. The Court Seems to be extremely pleased with the present Situation of Things; and no body has any Occasion to be out of Humour, except the Minister from Bavaria, who has been suffered to go away without any Audience, and without the usual Present; which is a Thing that scarce ever happened to any foreign Minister during the present Reign.
