LOUISIANA.

A correspondent of the National Intelligencer, writing from New Orleans under date of 20th ult., thus states the results of the recent election in Louisiana:

The Governor.—The Locofoco candidate, Mr. Mouton, is chosen by a majority of about 1,500.

The Senate—Consists of 17 members, chosen for four years; one-half every two years. The late Senate was Locofoco, 9 to 8; this election we have lost one member and gained two, and the Senate is consequently changed, and now stands 9 Whigs to 8 Locos.

The House—Consists of 60 members, of which the Whigs have elected thirty-four, and the Locos 26; leaving a Whig majority of 8, and on joint ballot 8, thus securing a United States Whig Senator for six years.

Congress.—The three present members are all re-elected, 2 Whigs and 1 anti-Whig. In this district no serious opposition to Mr. White; in the second district, Dawson (Loco) is re-elected by a majority less than one-half that Mr. Mouton received: in the third district, where the Loco Governor has a majority of 1,200, Mr. Moore (Whig) is re-elected to Congress it is thought by a large majority; but we have not yet received the details of the Congress ticket: the canvass and opposition to Mr. Moore was very active.

The result then is, we have lost the Governor; we have changed the Senate from Locofoco to Whig; we have gained strength in the House, where our majority last year was very feeble indeed, three to five being all we could count upon—our Senator, if I recollect right, was elected by three or four majority on joint ballot; and in Congress we have retained our previous members. The only unfavorable change has been the Governor, and that is readily accounted for by various and obvious causes.

First, the situation of the banks and currency operated strongly against us on that point; secondly, Mr. Mouton openly advocated a convention to alter the constitution and an extension of suffrage, both popular with a large majority. Mr. Johnson came out very late on those two points, and not so decidedly as his opponent; but the great cause of Mr. Mouton's success was the Creole feeling, and he has been clearly and undoubtedly elected by the votes of the Creole Whigs. I believe in almost every parish he ran ahead of his ticket; in some, where he received a majority, the rest of the Whig ticket prevailed; and in one parish, where he received 300 majority, the Whig candidate for Congress had about the same. Look at the third district, where Mr. Moore (Whig) is re-elected and Mr. Mouton has 1,200 majority.

Let our friends then abroad rest assured that Louisiana is as decidedly Whig as she ever was, and when the time comes you will see the CLAY flag wave in triumph over the entire State; you will not then see the apathy which has recently pervaded our ranks, and which also has, joined to the other causes, contributed to the recent result. But of this apathy we should have had the strongest Whig Legislature we have had for many years; in one Whig parish we lost two members by a majority of eight or ten, and in several others by a very small vote.
