NEWPORT, MARCH 11.

Extract of a Letter from Quebec, Feb. 28:

"On the 18th ult. between the Hours of 7 and 8 in the Evening, Jacob Rowe, Esq; Deputy Provost Marshal of this Place, was cruelly assaulted by some Villains, who had no design against him more than another, they being determined to rob the first Person that descended the hill -- We are in great hopes of his Recovery, he having two of the best Chirurgeons in this Place to attend him -- He has eight wounds in his Head, and every one to the Skull. the Fore-finger of his left hand cut off, his left Ear cut across the Gristle, stabbed near the jugular Vein a quarter of an inch, and intended to have killed him to prevent a discovery. -- The Hon. Hector Theophilus Cramahe, Esq; President of the Council and Commander in Chief, issues a Proclamation offering a Reward of 200 Dollars for the discovery of the Perpetrators of this inhuman transaction; in consequence of which two of the Party have since impeached their Accomplices, who are taken up and committed to Gaol in order for a full Trial."
