Trampled Demos Urged To Back Ike

Jim McMillen, head of the local Democrats-For-Eisenhower Club, today held out open arms for Southern Democrats who are being pushed around, shoved around, stepped on, humiliated and kicked in the teeth by the northern leftwingers at the Chicago Democratic Convention.

He invited them to "join us and get behind that great American, Dwight Eisenhower for the best interests of America and of the world."

McMillen pointed out that he was born in Baltimore, and has always been a staunch Democrat, but added, "I still cannot tolerate the way the South is being treated at Chicago . . . I don't see how

any true Southern Democrat can
stomach that stuff and take it lying
down."
The local radio news director,
who organized North Carolina's
"Democrats-For-Eisenhower" Club
pointed out that in 1948 the bol-
ting Southern Democrats "had no
place to go."
"They could not accept Dewey.
They did not want Truman. But
this year, they can get in great
pride, honor and glory rally behind
General Eisenhower"
CITES IMPORTANCE
"The importance of electing Gen-
eral Eisenhower," said McMillen.
"by far transcends any political
party or loyalty to any party."
"That talk about party loyalty,
so much hog-wash," he said. "is
merely the desperate chant of the
machine politicians to try to herd
the voters to support a cause which
should not and cannot win."
McMillen said it makes no dif-
ference to him whom the party
nominates at Chicago.
PENDULUM HAS SWUNG
"Whoever is nominated," he pre-
dicted, "will go down in bitter
crushing defeat because the great
avalanche of American voters are
supporting Eisenhower . . . The
trend has developed . . . It is gain-
ing momentum . . . Nothing can
stop public sentiment when it starts
swinging and nothing, no combin-
ation, no coalition can stop this man Eisenhower."
Chairman McMillen said he is
extremely pleased with the large
number of Democrats who have
written and phoned to volunteer
their services.
"It is proof beyond possible doubt
that Democrats this year, fed up
with corruption, dillydallying, in-
decision and ineptness in Washing-
ton, are going to put the welfare
of the nation and the world above
petty partisan politics and elect
the one man who can lead our
nation to peace, prosperity and se-
curity."
McMillen is now preparing for
formal opening of headquarters of-
fices here. At present, he is carry-
ing on the task of organizing the
Democrats for Eisenhower in his
offices in the First Citizens Bank
Building.
