NEW-YORK, November 28.

In the Hope, Captain Jacobson, lately arrived, came Passenger, Peter De Lancey, junr. Esq; from London, where he had been appointed one of the Inspectors of Stamps for America.--As soon as he was properly inform'd how disagreeable it was to his Countrymen that he should hold that Office, he readily offer'd to resign it, and Yesterday, according to his Promise and appointment the Evening before, a Number of Gentlemen assembled for the Purpose, and he publickly declared his Resignation, and signed and deliver'd a Paper, of which the following is a true Copy.

This Resignation has gain'd him great Applause and entirely restored him to the Esteem of the Public.

WHEREAS since my late Return to this my native Land, I have found the Office of Inspector of STAMPS, to which I was appointed in England, and which I accepted, to be extremely disagreeable and odious to all Ranks and Conditions of my Countrymen--And having maturely considered the just Causes of their Aversion to the Stamp-Act, and the Consequences of being by them detested as an Enemy to American and English LIBERTY. and deserted by my Friends ;--and being sincerely desirous to promote the real Interest of my Country, and recover its Good-Will and Opinion--I do hereby, with the utmost Cheerfulness and Willingness, promise to resign the said Office ;--and DO, without any Equivocation or mental Reservations solemnly declare, upon my Honor, that I never will, directly or indirectly, either by myself or any other Persons. serve in said Office, nor in any Way or Manner contribute to the Execution of the Stamp-Act in America.

Given under my Hand, in the City of New-York, this 27th Day of November, 1765, before a Number of Gentlemen Inhabitants of this City.
