We have had the pleasure of meeting with several gentlemen, in the last few days, from East Tennessee. We are assured that the work goes bravely on in that section of the State, with every indication of a large increase of the democratic vote in November next.
The meeting at Knoxville, on the 28th, was largely attended and marked with great enthusiasm. Among the old line whigs who made speeches on the occasion, were the Hon. A. G. Watkins, Col. Jno. H. Crozier and Wm. G. Swan, Esq. R. G. Payne, Esq. was also present and addressed the meeting.
They bring us, also, most flattering accounts of our gallant standard bearer, Maj. Polk. He is represented as having made a series of powerful and effective speeches; and, to use their own expression, "he murders Maynard."
Ex-Gov. A. V. Brown, who has been making some effective speeches in Virginia, recently entered East Tennessee, and has spoken with great satisfaction to his friends at Jonesboro', Greenville and Rogersville.
