A short time since a Mr. Strickland, living near Mansfield, in Tarrant county, had a horse stolen from him. Sheriff Moon was notified of the fact, and a description of the horse given him. Early yesterday morning a stable keeper named Silverstein informed Marshal Morton that a man who gave his name as Butts had the day before offered him a horse for twenty-five dollars, the animal being worth more than double that sum: that he had offered to advance him five dollars.
Upon being questioned by the marshal, he became indignant, stoutly denying that the horse was stolen, at first refusing to go with him, but finally consented to do so, being persuaded by a navy six. Sheriff Moon identified the horse as the one answering the description, and upon looking up Mr. Strickland, the owner, who chanced to be in the city, he at once recognized the animal as his property. Butts was jailed.
