Agricultural Report for Stirlingshire.
The harvest weather till lately, has been favorable in this country. The wheat and oat crops are mostly secured in the lowland districts of the county, in good order, and both are remarkably small even on the best of lands, particularly the oats, which do not bulk above half a crop. Beans are mostly cut, a good crop, a matter of very great consequence to the farmer, particularly for the fodder for his horses, considering the great scarcity of hay and other food.
The barley in general is only beginning to be ready for cutting, and as it ripens very unequally, must be a poor sample, and the quantity will want to all appearance about one third of an average crop.
