Raleigh, Oct. 25.—While President Frank P. Graham, of the consolidated University of North Carolina is by no means regarded as belonging to the proverbial almost absent minded type of college president or professor often pictured in cartoons and humorous stories, he was absent-minded one night last week. For after buying a ticket to Washington in the station here, President Graham left his ticket on the ledge of the ticket window, boarded the train. He did not discover the fact that he did not have his ticket until the train was almost to Henderson.
"President Graham was considerably embarrassed when the conductor came through asking for tickets and he found that he did not have his ticket," said a fellow passenger who observed the incident. "He recalled distinctly that he had purchased the ticket at the station in Raleigh and finally decided he must have left it at the ticket window.
The conductor was very courteous and accommodating and when the train stopped at Henderson, wired back to Raleigh, found that Dr. Graham had left his ticket there at the ticket window and then had a new ticket issued for him there at Henderson."
President Graham was going to Washington to confer with General Hugh S. Johnson as a member of one of the special NRA committees to which he had been appointed.
