Full Text

Chief-Justice Chase, says the New York Times, is anxious to have it publicly known that he is in favor of female suffrage being established by law. He told Miss Lucy Stone to "be free to say for me that I think there will be no end to the good that will come by it;" and he further expressed the opinion that at no distant day women will possess the franchise as freely as men.

Mr. Chase is reported by his enemies, if not by his friends, to be a candidate for the next Presidency; and we should like to know, seeing he considers the subject of such great consequence, whether he is willing to have it inserted as a plank in his Presidential platform. To stand by one's convictions, and to display moral courage in upholding them under all circumstances, are admirable things.
