Peruvians!—The campaign which is about to ensure your liberty, has commenced under the most auspicious auspices.—The army of Gen. Canterac has received a mortal blow on the field of Junin, by the loss of one third of its forces and the moral effects which it is likely to produce:—the Spaniards fly in dismay, abandoning the most fertile provinces, while general Olañeta occupies upper Peru with an army truly patriotic and determined to be the protector of liberty.
Peruvians!—Two powerful enemies encompass the royalists of Peru—the army of Olañeta on the one hand, who, satiated with Spanish tyranny has shaken off the yoke and is now fiercely fighting against the enemies of South America—and on the other our own. General Olañeta and his illustrious companions in arms have made themselves worthy of American gratitude, and I do consider them worthy in a high degree of the loftiest rewards. Hence Peru and the whole of South America must look upon that general as one of the liberators.
Peruvians!—We shall shortly visit the cradle of the Peruvian empire, and the temple of the sun. Cuzco will enjoy on the first day of its liberty, more pleasure and glory, than it did under the golden kingdom of its Incas. Head quarters, liberator at Huancayo, 15th August, 1824.
