Change Maker Requested
$1,000 Monument
NEW YORK (ANP) - Former W. Splown, the 59-year-old New York subway changemaker who died recently leaving an estate of $100,000 which was to be divided in quite an unusual manner, it was disclosed from the will last week, directed the executors of his estate to set aside $1,000 for a monument to be erected over his grave.
Splown, who lived in Newark where he owned several pieces of valuable real estate, left the bulk of the estate to his sister, Mrs. Sysneross Goree of the Bronx. Besides $5,000 in cash, he left Mrs. Goree government bonds and several shares in the American Telegraph co. Marcelis Splown, a cousin, received four houses and at least five of his closest friends were remembered with gifts of $1,000 each.
A dozen tenants received smaller amounts with the understanding that, if they owed no rent, they would receive the bequests without question.
Sployn's lawyer was J. Bernard Johnson, former assistant prosecutor of Essex County, N. J.
