The following melancholy accident happened on Wednesday, the 2d inst. at New London, viz.- A vessel from Ireland, with a number of passengers on board, was lying near Fisher's-Island, and two boats were ordered on shore laden with materials to erect a tent for their accommodation - one of the boats was deep laden and towed by the other - when they had got within about twenty rods of the shore, the boat that was in tow sunk; the people immediately got hold of the other boat, which was small, and overset or filled her by this accident Capt. John Chapman, of that city, and six or seven passengers, were drowned.
