Marva Refuses To Comment On Divorce Rumors
Custody Of Two-Year Old 'Jackie Still In Doubt
NEW YORK CITY - (SNS) Although she refused to comment on persistent rumors this week that she and her famous husband, Sergeant Joe Louis, have definitely decided to settle their marital difficulties in the divorce court, Marva, reached at her address here Friday night, did not deny them.
She just refused to "talk about it."
It was learned from authoritative sources here that an out of court settlement had been made, that the couple had decided mutually on a divorce, that a $10,000 educational policy would be provided for their two-year old daughter, Jacqueline, although the child's custody remained undecided.
Confronted with these reports, Mrs. Louis, here to fill a theatrical engagement on her career as a vocalist, said, "I'm not talking about anything but my Apollo opening."
She is booked for a week's appearance at Harlem's Apollo theatre.
When informed of the stipulations, and the report that the divorce would be filed between March 9 and 15, Mrs. Louis' sole reply was "Is that so?"
Rumors of the Joe-Marva Louis divorce were given credence last Sunday night when Walter Winchell in his broadcast said the couple would be divorced "some time in March."
Friends of the couple, however, persisted in the belief that there was still talk of a reconciliation.
