The Butte Business Men's association held an interesting meeting at the association rooms last evening, and among other matters taken up for discussion was the union depot project.

Mr. Horgan favored the idea of changing the name of the organization to The Board of Trade, but after some discussion withdrew his motion to that effect, the present name being satisfactory to the members.

In order to more easily get a quorum in the future, so that the consideration of important business will not be delayed, notice in writing of a motion to amend Article VI, so that nine members shall constitute a quorum, was presented, and will be acted upon at the next meeting.

Progress was reported by the committee appointed to investigate the present system of taxing business houses.

Joseph Broughton of Walkerville brought up the subject of a railroad to that place and urged that some steps be taken to place it in a position more favorable to its business interests. In a certain sense, he said Walkerville is at present isolated, having no railroad facilities, and being reached by freight only by a country road. The county commissioners, he said, were willing to open up Montana street through to Walkerville, and with this and the extension of the street railway to it, the town would lose its identity and become a part of the great city of Butte, an end that all desired to see brought about.

This important matter was referred to a strong committee, consisting of A. F. Bray, D. M. Newbro, William Horgan and D. J. Hennessy, with a recommendation to act with the citizens of Walkerville in an effort to secure the opening of the street, as suggested by Mr. Broughton, and to confer with the street railway company with reference to getting the road extended to the town.

The committee will also look into the feasibility of building a new wagon road to Walkerville.

Another very important subject was brought before the meeting by James Thompson, who urged the necessity for a union depot, and a committee consisting of Judge Speer, ex-Governor Rickards and D. J. Hennessy was appointed to confer with the various railroad companies and ascertain the expense of carrying out such a project.

The necessity of increasing the membership, if the association is to exert the influence of good that all desire, was urged by several gentlemen, and it was suggested that each member consider himself a committee of one to bring in some other eligible person.

In a short time the rooms of the association in the Kingsbury block will be open daily for the use of members and their guests, and it is proposed to make them attractive. The tables will be supplied with current literature, and such data as may be of especial interest will be compiled for the use of members.
