Tanner community is being built up by new and remodeled homes, according to Estella Evatt, home demonstration agent in Ashley county.
Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Bailey have built a four-room house, consisting of living room, dining room and kitchen combination, and two bedrooms. The Baileys plan to add a bath and dining room later.
The Bailey house is wired with electricity. An electric pump has been installed at the well, which was dug near the back porch.
The tops of the built-in cabinets are covered with red linoleum, and shelves are covered with red oilcloth. Curtains are red and white checked gingham. The breakfast table is white with red and black designs. The living room color scheme is cream, green and rose.
The yard has been sodded and planted, and small shrubs have been set out.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shelton of Tanner have extended the living room of their home 8 feet and have added two windows. A screened back porch and two more rooms will be added to the three-room house later.
The Sheltons have also built a new poultry house for 45 hens and 50 broilers, all Buff Orpingtons. The yard of their home has been landscaped with 150 shrubs and rooted cuttings and 37 evergreens.
G. V. Scribner has built a kitchen cabinet with a counter top 12 feet long in the Scribner home at Tanner. A sink is in the center of the counter, and a three-burner oil stove has been built in one end. Underneath the stove are cabinets for cooking utensils. The cabinets will be painted cream with a red trim.
Among the new homes in Tanner are those of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. McClain, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Willis, Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Stell, Mr. and Mrs. Leander Kelley, and Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Cope.
