NEW YORK (ANP) - Cooperation between religious denominational groups throughout the country will take a step forward when 26 church bodies gather in Cleveland, Nov. 28-Dec. 1, to establish the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U. S. A. The purpose of this organization is to serve as an instrument of cooperative Christianity.
The group will be composed of 22 Protestant and four Eastern Orthodox church groups having a combined membership of 26,000,000.
Three other communions with close to 4,000,000 members may decide to join the group this fall. There will be, in addition, 13 other denominations with a total of 13,000,000 members, which will be related to the national group through one or more phases of its work.
Approximately 1,200 official representatives and alternates are expected to attend the constituting convention.
