WASHINGTON, April 13. (UP)—The office of price administration Thursday shuffled passenger tire rationing classification to allow motorists heretofore eligible only for used tires to obtain new "factory seconds" tires.
OPA also announced that new "factory second" passenger tubes are being taken out of rationing and now may be purchased without a certificate.
Motorists who are issued "B" gasoline ration books for non-preferred occupational driving are eligible for used passenger tires and now, in addition, will be able to buy new "factory seconds" as well, OPA said.
"Factory second" tires and tubes are those which manufacturers have found to be imperfect, and have been especially identified or shorn of a brand name. They have a price ceiling 25 per cent below that of perfect new tires.
