Bounty Lands. The Legislature of Arkansas has passed a law offering ex officio a quarter section of land, as a bounty to each settler coming into the State.

The lands of Arkansas are prolific. In the southern parts, bordering the Red and Mississippi rivers, the soil is well adapted to the culture of cotton, similar and equal to any part of Alabama or Louisiana.

In the middle portion, and in the vicinity of Little Rock, although broken there is much good land, and from the circumstance of being convenient to market and adjacent to the river so that any surplus productions be easily transported to any market out of State, it is well fitted for the cultivation and settlement of small farmers. The country on the borders of White river is very rich; no soil of Kentucky or Tennessee can surpass it.

The people in this portion of the State are generally good, industrious farmers and are accumulating wealth rapidly, making many improvements in the art of husbandry, and the breeding of blooded cattle.

The north western portion admirably adapted to the culture of the small grains, and also tobacco; barley was never covered with finer crops or wheat than are this year produced in the county of Washington. The barrens of Crawford and Conway counties produce the finest of tobacco requiring little care in cultivation.
