Letter from Paris, May 27.

Our last Letters from Corsica bring Advice, that the Convoy, to the Number of 15 Ships, is safely arriv'd at Bastia and San Fiorenzo, so that we expect News from the Marquis de Maillebois in a short Time. We hear, that on the 28th of last Month, his Excellency, at the Head of a Detachment, march'd out of Bastia again, and advanc'd towards Bevino, where he order'd the Roads to be repair'd which led to Cainea, Borgo, Lubiana, and all the Trees and Hedges to be cut down, to prevent Ambushes when our Troops are on their March. In spite of all those Preparations, the Rebels appear as obstinate as ever; and we are assur'd, that in a great Assembly lately convoked, they have forbid all Communication with the French and Genoese, under Pain of Death and Forfeiture of Goods and Estates; the Design of which is to hinder their own Projects from being discovered, and for that Purpose they have posted three flying Detachments, viz. one at Fiumorbo, another at Ponte-di-volo, and the third on the Frontiers of the Province of Balagna. It is given out, that Baron de Trot, Baron Newhoff's Nephew, is declared their Generalissimo, and that they design to conduct him all over the Island, in order to get him acknowledged in that Quality; but that he judged proper to stay at the Convent of Arrezza, where he has published a General Amnesty for all the Corsicans in the Service of the Genoese, who shall quit them within a limited Term. The Baron is forming a Company for his Body Guard, and has given the Rebels to understand, that Baron Newhoff his Uncle, will speedily appear again with fresh Supplies. The Rebels still go on in burning and destroying the Houses and Effects of their Countrymen who side with the Republick; but we presume that ample Reprisals will soon be made upon them, and the total Ruin of that Island seems at Hand.
