INTERESTING MEETING OF THE BOARD ON SUBJECT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON

PLEDGES ITS COOPERATION

In order to stimulate interest the Brunswick Board of Trade recommends as convention of all interested sections.

The Brunswick board of trade will cooperate actively with the other trade bodies interested in the matter of reopening plans looking to an appropriation of $635,000 for the deepening of the Ocmulgee, Oconee and Altamaha rivers as recommended by Col. Dan C. Kingman, by the rivers and harbors committee of congress. It will be remembered that the item was cut to an annual appropriation of $40,000 after the recommendations had been made.

Due to the splendid work of Congressman Brantley, the rivers and harbors committee have reopened this question and it is up to the people interested and who live in the section traversed by these rivers to get busy and make a showing before the board of engineers for rivers and harbors. At the meeting of the board of trade held yesterday, the matter was discussed at length and finally it was concluded to address a letter to the boards of trade of all cities tributary to these rivers and invite a convention to be held in Brunswick or at some other point to formulate plans for making the very best showing before the board of engineers.

As announced in the News yesterday morning there will be a public hearing before the board on this subject and Congressman Brantley is desirous of having delegations from the various boards of trade in the several cities and towns affected to be present at the hearing. In his opinion, there is not such 500 miles of splendid waterway anywhere in the United States that has received so little attention as this, nor one that will give better returns for money expended upon it. The subject is one of importance to the entire state of Georgia.

This idea of a convention of delegates to assemble at some suitable place in the zone affected by the proposed hearing ought to be a good one and the secretary of the board of trade will today take up the matter with the other commercial bodies at interest. The success of the plan will mean much to Brunswick and all other points touched by these rivers.
