Our last arrived here two Vessels from Newfoundland advise. That a Vessel arrived there in a short passage from the West of England and the Hawke had taken Brest: The following Extracts of Letters from two Gentlemen at Newfoundland, contain the substance of the Master's Report, viz. November 1, 1757.

Three Days ago a Vessel arrived from Tops ham, in 23 Days to Bay Bulls ; and brings Account of Brest being taken ; and this Day a Sloop from Bay Bulls, that the Captain from Tops ham says, that we lost three Admirals and five thousand Men in the Action ; but this last-wants Confirmation. November 2. It is currently reported here by the Master of a Brig that came from Tops ham in 19 Days, that our Fleet had entered Brest ; and that twenty Thousand Troops were landed, who burnt all the French Men of War on Stocks, destroyed all their Dock and Timber Yard. &c
