N. Y. Producers Reneg on Promises Previously Made
Several To Be Rewritten.
NEW YORK, Feb. 21.—Producers have reneged on promises to withdraw plays which were the result of many complaints told to the District Attorney's office on account of being immoral.
The producers will not withdraw "The Elms" by Eugene O'Neil, and announce prosecution, instead of withdrawing it on Wednesday.
David Belasco has retracted his promise to rewrite two plays, "The Harem," and "Ladies of the Evening."
William A. Brady, whose "A Good Bad Woman" started the commotion, announced he would not withdraw it tonight as he had agreed. Brady said: "I do not propose to be the goat." Brady however said, the play will be rewritten by Monday.
The above productions have been playing generally to "standing room only" business.
