Full Text

April 20. Letters from London, by the last vessels, say that the agents for the colonies were determined to petition the House of Commons for the repeal of the late revenue acts. We learn farther that there was no design in the Ministry to put the resolves passed by the two Houses into execution, by advising his Majesty to issue a special commission for trying treason committed in the colonies (if there had been any such committed) in England. That it was asserted in the Commons, in the course of the debate upon these resolutions, that such a commission never would, nor could, consistent with the acts of the Crown, be issued. This was peremptorily and positively asserted, and the Crown lawyers were called upon to answer it.

Letters from London report that agents for the colonies plan to petition the House of Commons for repeal of the late revenue acts. There is no intention in the Ministry to execute resolves by advising his Majesty to issue a special commission for trying colonial treason in England. In Commons debate, it was asserted that such a commission could not be issued consistent with Crown acts, positively affirmed without contradiction from Crown lawyers.
