HAYS, PICKENS, WHITE HIT BAIR AT JERSEY MASS MEETING

NEW YORK, Oct. 30 - Winding up the anti-Bair campaign in New Jersey, under the auspices of the State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, three speakers, Arthur Garfield Hays, William Pickens and Walter White, denounced the governorship candidate for his vote in the Senate to seat Judge Parker on the Supreme Court. A crowd of 600 crowded St. Mark's A. M. E. Zion church, and loudly applauded the appeals to colored voters to rebuke all enemies of the Negro's civil liberties.

Bair, who spoke on the same night in Jersey City, had been challenged to meet the N. A. A. C. P. speakers on the platform, and Arthur Garfield Hays roused laughter when he inquired whether Mr. Bair was in the house. When no answer was forthcoming, Mr. Hays placed a chair on the platform, addressed it as Mr. Bair, and read published quotations from Bair's addresses in which he sought to defend his Parker vote.

All the speakers insisted that Bair's pro-Parker vote was the chief issue in the campaign for colored voters.
