Looking Through a Political Field Glass.
These are formulative days. The Insurance revelations confirm all the Democrats have been claiming touching the purchase of the country by the Republican party managers.
The very foundations of our fiscal and commercial system have been rotting. Those on which the insurance fabric stood gave way and the edifice toppled into a cellar filled with the debris of pillage. Men are beginning everywhere to say, "Anything to rescue the government from this, the national character from this, the present and the future of the Republic from this." Mr. Bryan may be the Moses. Mr. Hearst may be the David. But Mr. Roosevelt may undertake to build up a party of his own?-Louisville Courier Journal.
