Know Nothing Mass Meeting.
The Know Nothing State Committee
has announced a Mass Meeting of that
party to be held in this place on the 29th
inst. The speakers to be in attendance
are Hon. P. Talman, C. L. Poorman
and M. L. Hatcher.
We'll bet our old boots that the Know
Nothing Clique here, will make no prepa-
ration for this meeting, but will let it go
by default. It dont exactly suit their pur-
poses.

"And Satan Appeared Also"
An adopted citizen of this county was
approached by the Cayennes, the other
day, and was told that if he would 'come
into the organization, or run with the
machine; he should have an office! -Our
friend informed his anxious querists that
they reminded him of a certain gentleman
who went up into a high mountain, and
showed the Savior all the kingdoms of
the world, and the glory of them,' and
offered to give everything up, if the Sa-
vi or would only fall down and worship
him! Our friend thinks the Cayennes
are about in the same fix--have nothing
to give.-Dayton Empire.
The same system of bribing men to
leave the Democratic party has been prac-
ticed in this county, and the same result
will follow; it will be all promises and no
pay There is scarcely a prominent Dem-
ocrat in the county, whom Know Nothing
leaders suspect of having aspirations for
office, that has not been bid for; many of
these, of course, rejected the offer with
contempt. Some of them they succeeded
in buying, but they are mostly those whom
the people refused to elect when they pro-
fessed to be Democrats, and who hope
that by joining some other party, they
may make the people believe they have
some additional merits. A man who is
not fit for an office when claiming to be a
Democrat, don't become qualified by sell-
ing his political principles to the highest
bidder.
