Yesterday afternoon a passage Boat, belonging to Johnstown's ferry, on Staten-Island, having two Passengers, a Chaise, and two Horses on board, besides the Skipper, unfortunately overset near the Island, owing to some Indiscretion or Mismanagement at the time when the Flaw struck her. The Helmsman, being the Waitingman on a Gentleman belonging to Philadelphia, was drowned (his Master more fortunately staying behind) and the other Passenger Mr. Nathan Ogden, after boxing the Waves for near an Hour, heavy clothed, was taken up by a Gentleman from the Island. The Skipper was also saved; but the Boat and Tackling soon disappeared.
