KNOXVILLE, Aug 15.

Death of Doublehead.

On Sunday night last, Doublehead, one of the chiefs of the Cherokee tribe of Indians, was shot in the head, by some person who unobserved entered the house of the Broom where he then was, and who being distinguished. Doublehead was reputed put out the candle and escaped without. Neighborhood where he continued to live moved by the Broom to a house in the Indians, supposed to be in league with the. On Monday evening, when a party of five persons who had shot him, discovered his place of concealment, fired balls through his head, and beat it to jelly with the butts of their pistols. Circumstances fix suspicion on a conspicuous settler in the nation, as the conceiver of his death.
