Iowa has now passed eugenic marriage laws almost as stringent as those in Nebraska; about the only difference being a matter of five days in the notice, Iowa applicants having to give a five-day notice while Nebraska couples must give ten days.
Maybe afterwhile people will become accustomed to the new requirements and figure them in from the start, but we'll wager that so long as the state is bordered by Kansas, Colorado Wyoming and South Dakota with the laws now prevailing in those states, the ministers, and judges of Nebraska will lose at least half of the rightful revenue.
Six marriage licenses were issued at Julesburg, Colorado, last week and five of the six were to Nebraska couples and hardly a week passes but what at least two or three marriage licenses are issued at Torrington to Nebraska couples.--Morrill Mail.
The marriage and divorce problems are rapidly making a farce of the United States. The solution is a national law governing the issuance of a marriage license and the legalizing of the marriage ceremony, and also a law governing divorce decrees. It is a travesty on the sanctity of home life to permit of a couple to be married in one state under conditions prohibitive in another. Texas permits cousins to marry. and couples travel to that state from all other states to get married. It is common for a couple from Nebraska to go to Texas to get married.
People divorced in other states and prohibited from remarrying for a certain period go to Texas and get married and remain there until their period of probation is over.
You can get a marriage license in one corner of Texas, travel 900 miles to another corner and get married on that license.
In Wyoming the man only is required to secure a physician's certificate to the effect that he is physically sound and without a communicable disease before he can secure a marriage license.
