Full Text

An Advertising Swindler.—William Bach,
alias Thomas Andrews, was yesterday arraigned before Justice Dowling on the complaint of George E. Miller of No. 759 Grand st. The complainant states that on the 11th inst., in response to an advertisement which appeared in the daily papers, he called on the accused at No. 73 Nassau-st., and there Bach desired from him a loan of $50, in return for which he would furnish him employment at $50 per month, and as security for the repayment of the loan, offered him a certificate of stock representing 100 shares in the "Matamoras Petroleum Company of the City of New-York." They then separated, Bach agreeing to meet Miller at the Harlem depot on the way to Massachusetts, where they were to engage in business. It is needless to remark that Bach did not make his appearance, and that Miller saw nothing more of him until his arrest by Officer Williams of the Twenty-seventh Precinct. The accused was committed by the magistrate.
