Marine Corporal Walter (Joe) Hurley, one of the greatest athletes to come out of the State of Connecticut, is stationed now at the Marine base in Camp Lejeune, N.C., where in his off moments from his duty he is maintaining the athletic pace.

Joe won renown in Hartford prep circles and gained further honors on the gridiron, basketball court, and track at Virginia State College, Petersburg, Va.

Corporal Hurley, who enlisted in the Marines in the summer of 1943, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Hurley, 240 Bellevue Street, Hartford, Conn. (PPNS)
