POETRY.
For the Southern Christian Advocate,
THE MISSIONARY IS APPOINTED, DIRECTED
AND INSPIRED BY GOD.
Go, heaven-appointed one,
The way thy Master calls,
To burning waste, or frozen zone,
To hovels poor, or princely halls,
Go with a single eye;
And stem sin's raging flood,
And mighty as a conqueror,
Prevail with man and God.
Go, heaven-directed one,
Tho' unseen be thy guide,
The voice that ever calls thee on,
Says, I am at thy aide.
Tho' foes thy path oppose,
Yet fearless press thee on,
Faith never must its labours close,
Till all its work is done.
Go, heaven-inspired one,
The victory is thine;
Thou toilest not for earthly lore,
Thy mission is divine.
Go then, thou world's ambassador
And make this message known.
That every soul to Christ is given,
And may in him be one.
