Pleading guilty to a charge of stealing a valuable Manchester dog owned by Harvey W. Ware, Cumberland, on New Year's Eve, Darrell Stewart, of Vindex, was fined $50 and costs in Trial Magistrates Court at Cumberland on Monday.
Stewart's brother, William F. Stewart, also of Vindex, was cleared of any connection in the case by his brother and the charge against him was dismissed.
Ware testified that the Stewart brothers were in his home on New Year's Eve for a short time, admired the dog, named "Friskey," and asked to buy him but were told he was not for sale. A short time after the young men left, the dog was found to be missing.
Ware and James Kennedy, of the Gay Detective Agency, located the dog at Stewart's home after 18 days of searching, explained the situation to Stewart's mother and took the dog home.
State's Attorney Morgan C. Harris questioned the brothers in the course of the hearing.
