Full Text

It was said that Lewelling's new Metropolitan police board appointed by him last week for Topeka is in favor of fining the Topeka joints, thereby recognizing their existence, whereupon a big indignation meeting was called at one of the churches. After putting in the evening threatening what they would do, the new board announced that they had entertained no such idea, it having been their intention to let the thing run the old way, which, if true, will compel the boys to order their drinks by telephone ostensibly from Kansas City, Mo., as heretofore, leaving the police force to be paid also in the old way.
