TREMENDOUS GALE.
The town of Norfolk (Vir.) was visited by a most tremendous gale of wind last Friday, which lasted twenty hours. The tide rose to an uncommon height, overflowing all the wharves to the depth of from one to three feet, and extended as far as the south side of Wide Water-Street. The shipping at the wharves sustained no damage of consequence; but the most fearful forebodings are entertained for the fate of those who were exposed to the fury of the gale at sea, or even in the Chesapeake. At Princess Ann, its effects were severely felt. Many bridges were swept away, and the roads in some places rendered impassable.
