NASHVILLE-(ANP)-Of 20,000 teachers in Tennessee, approximately 3,000 of these are Negro teachers, a recent report from the Tennessee Education association revealed.
During the present school year, 2,100 received $70 to $80 monthly for eight months; 630 received $80 to $100 a month for eight months; 2,100 received $70 to $80 monthly for eight months and 3,500 teachers received $100 and above for eight months.
Although Bass could not supply the breakdown of this into Negro and white teachers, he said that the percentage runs about the same as the total number of Negro teachers is to the number of white teachers.
Bass states that there is "little disparity" existing between salaries of Negro teachers and white teachers.
