It may be relied on for truth, that during the siege of York in Virginia, Lord Cornwallis kept himself snug in a cave the greater part of the time. This cave was dug horizontally into one of the high banks on the side of the river, where it was next to an impossibility that the shot or shells could reach the person of the renowned warrior—From the character he had sustained before this day of humiliation, we were led to expect that in such circumstances, he would have exposed himself as much as the meanest of the soldiery.
