WASHINGTON, June 6.-The fees of George Bliss as special counsel in the star route trial are likely to be materially reduced on a point raised by First Auditor Reynolds of the Treasury department. That official declares that the bills presented to the government by Mr. Bliss for expenses, in addition to his per diem pay, cannot be allowed. He questions the right of the Attorney General to say that counsel shall receive so much a day and expenses, as this form of allowance makes the pay indefinite. It is proper, the First Auditor says, for the Attorney General to grant as large a fee as he deems fair; but the amount should be definitely stated, and Mr. Bliss should pay his expenses out of that. The matter has gone for final decision to First Comptroller Lawrence. Until his opinion is given the settlement of Bliss' account is suspended. The following is a specimen of many of the suspended bills:

ARLINGTON HOTEL.
May 20, 1882.
The Hon. George Bliss
to T. Rossle & Son.
Dr.
To board 16 days and parlor, at $10.. $160
To telegrams 20
To baggage 10
To fires 2 9888
To messenger .75
To postage. Washing.. 7 75
Total. $226 18

Other bills from the same hotel have the following items:
To messenger
To baggage 25c
Postage

The Government, in this case, was charged with the twenty-five cents fee generously given by Mr. Bliss to the persons who carried his bag to his room.
