Extract of a Letter from Mount Independence, June 3, 1777.
"You may depend on it, there is no danger of the enemy's attacking this part at present, although the General has called for the Militia, to satisfy the minds of the people, and has since countermanded his order. The greatest enemies we have to fear, are some cursed Tories, who are endeavouring to spread the Small-Pox in the Camp; but as there is the greatest care taken to prevent it, believe they will not succeed in their hellish designs: It is healthy in camp, our troops in good spirits, a plenty of good provisions, Friends all well, &c."
