A day or so ago certain estimable members of the republican county central committee discussed county politics with The Press. They stated that this newspaper had made a stout and winning fight for Miles Poindexter in eastern Washington, and that therefore The Press ought to support the republican candidate for county offices, especially as "they were all good men."
The Press let these gentlemen know that within a day or two it would definitely announce its stand. And that announcement is made today.
First of all, The Spokane Press is not a partisan newspaper -- not partisan in the widest, narrowest, or any other old interpretation of the term. It is not a republican newspaper. It is not a democratic newspaper. It is not a socialist paper. The Press IS SOLELY THE PEOPLE'S PAPER, FIGHTING FOR MEN AND MEASURES FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. It is an independent newspaper in every sense of that word.
In the campaign preceding the primaries, this newspaper judged that Miles Poindexter was a real people's candidate for senator, running against a big special interests' candidate, and so it supported Poindexter with all its strength.
The same principles of "insurgency" and independence are involved, to a great extent, in the contest for the county offices. In this fight there is a political ring headed by the Pugh family, which The Press does not believe should longer control the court house.
Some able and honest candidates have been nominated to run against these men, and so The Press intends to urge their election, to the end that county government conditions may be improved.

HOW THE PRESS STANDS
(Continued from page one.)
Parties and party issues are forgotten by the people of today, in local contests. Personalities and the issues they represent alone count. On one side in this campaign stands an old machine organization, which has fed at the county trough, lo! these twenty years or more. This organization is backed by the great private corporations, the liquor interests, and those who congregate about them.
On the other side stand men of proved records, who are endorsed by the labor unions in this city, and by the farmers' organizations in the outside districts.
During the campaign, from now until election day, November 8, The Press is going to publish the record of each candidate, and show just why it opposes certain men, and supports others.
And here is the advisory ticket, nearly complete:
THE PRESS' ADVISORY BALLOT.
Endorsed by the Farmers and the Labor Organizations:
