Harvard and Yale Crews Plainly Hiding Condition from Each Other.
Yale Quarters, Gales Ferry, Conn., June 18.-The Yale coaches are somewhat discouraged, tonight, as the result of time trials of both 'Varsity crews over the 4-mile course. The Yale 'Varsity went out at 6.30 and covered the "four" in 21.34 with the conditions of tide and wind almost perfect. The Harvard crew, a little earlier, had gone through the same performance in 21.18 and were generally in better form. The Harvard crew covered the 4-mile course, this afternoon, rowing up stream with a slight wind and tide in their favor. The men rowed better than on Friday, their time being 21.18, which is a second slower than the time of the Yale crew, tonight, as it was caught by operators at start and finish.
