New East River Bridge.

The new Williamsburg bridge across the East river, New York, is nearing completion. It will be one of the most marvelous structures of its kind in the world and one of the handsomest.

When it was begun it was estimated the cost would be about $15,000,000. One of the commissioners said a day or two ago that there had already been expended on the work $21,000,000 and that $4,000,000 more would be necessarily spent before the bridge could be opened for traffic, making the cost 6 per cent above the original estimate.
