Full Text
W. C. DePauw, Esq., President of the Bank of Salem, went from New Albany to Salem on Saturday, having with him a package of notes, principally on his own bank, amounting to $2,700. On leaving the cars at Salem, he left the package on his seat, and did not miss it until the cars were out of reach. He attempted to telegraph his loss to different points on the road (N. A. and S.) but the line was unfortunately down (as usual) and he did not succeed. The car on which the money was left returned on Monday, but the conductor had not seen or heard anything of it. Mr. DePauw passed through the city yesterday on his way north to try and identify a person who is believed to have taken the money.
