NEW TRIAL DENIED
JONESBORO, Ark., Dec. 8. (Spl.)—
Motion for a new trial for Luther W. Sneed, convicted of the murder of his wife and given life imprisonment in the state penitentiary, was denied Saturday by Circuit Judge R. E. L. Johnson at a special day of circuit court held for the purpose of hearing the motion.
Sneed was ordered to stand up. The judge stated to him that the jury had found him guilty and asked if he knew of any reason why he should not be sentenced. Sneed answered: "Yes, sir."
"Why?" asked the judge. "Because I am not guilty." Judge Johnson then said the jury have found you so and sentenced you to imprisonment in the state penitentiary at hard labor for the rest of your life.
The case will be appealed to the supreme court and Judge Johnson granted 55 days for the filing of the appeal. By agreement of the attorneys for both the state and the defense Sneed will be allowed to make bond pending the outcome of the appeal, in the sum of $15,000.
