Full Text

A story recently sent out from Atlanta to the effect that Governor Slaton refused to allow a convict because of past misconduct to attend the funeral of his mother under proper escort is a mistake, and does the Governor an injustice.

As a matter of fact, the Governor has no authority in matters of that kind and when the convict Gargila made application to the Governor for permission, the Governor recommended that the Prison Board, which has exclusive charge of such matters, grant the request.

The Governor himself could not grant it but he did all he could by urging the Prison Board to grant it.
