FROM THE CHESAPEAKE.

Washington, Aug. 19.—Express—Information has just been received by express from Commodore Barney who states, that there are sail of British vessels in the Patuxent; and that their intention is to destroy the flotilla.

Baltimore, Aug 20.—Information has been received this morning, that a part of the enemy's force is proceeding up the Potomac and the residue up the Patuxent; and it is presumed their object is to land and march up to the City of Washington. The preparations here for resistance and defence will not be relaxed in consequence of this movement, and our citizens of all classes, evince the greatest alacrity in obeying the orders of their respective officers.
