BOX 43, AGAIN.
Storehouse in Rear of Marshall Tilden's Block Burned.

Thursday morning about 1:30 the fourth alarm was rung in from box 43, and the locomotives in the railroad yard helped to make the alarm general. The fire proved to be in the storehouse and workshop in the rear of Marshall Tilden's block. The department made quick work of subduing the flames, but they had gutted the building and made a sorry looking affair of its front. The building was occupied in part as a storehouse for furniture and in part as a workshop. In the latter a machine hair picker was burned. Mr. Tilden estimates his loss at between $500 and $600. The building was insured but there was no insurance on the goods in the storehouse. There was no fire in the building nor any place for one, and the theories in regard to the fire look strongly towards incendiarism. Possibly it might have caught from a spark from a locomotive, but as a number of freight cars were standing near the building this does not seem possible.

After the fire Mr. Tilden invited the firemen into Edgarton's cafe where they were served with hot coffee and lunch. In behalf of the fire department Chief Leonard returns thanks to Mr. Tilden and to H. E. Remington for courtesies extended after recent fires.

There is some complaint that the new striker on the alarm bell is not heard in distant parts of the city. As about 90 of the 100 firemen have reported at every call so far, there seems to be little ground for complaint.
