Full Text
The liquor dealers of San Francisco are preparing for a desperate resistance against the local optionists. They have formed an association called the "Personal Liberty League" and adopted a series of resolutions, one of which reads as follows: "That we consider that the provisions of the Local Option law, which only allows the sale of wines and liquors in quantities of five gallons, only deprive the poor man, who is unable to stock his cellar with wines and liquors, of the comforts of life to which he may have been accustomed, while the rich man will in no manner be affected by this law; and we further consider that a law which makes it a misdemeanor for a host to offer a glass of wine to his guest at his house, is a disgrace to the statute books of the wine-producing State of California."
