There is a startling epidemic of baby shows in the west. In one day three of the halls in Cincinnati were given over to this sort of entertainment, and we are told that there were two hundred fine looking babies, 'quite a number from the wealthiest families of the city.' There was also a colored baby show for 'two nights only,' at which a number of white bachelors were judges. The 'arrangement and display of infants were perfect,' there being one complete set of triplets, according to newspaper account. The police arrangements, it is comforting to know, were thorough, for one shudders to contemplate what might have been the result had the colored infants—including the one complete set of triplets—got loose among the prominent white bachelors. Cincinnati justly feels very proud of this last baby show, as it is the first colored entertainment of the kind ever given in this or any other country.
